Academic Programs Offered
Master of Science
- Prelicensure: Our Generic MSN program provides entry level into the nursing profession for students with a baccalaureate degree in another field; pre-licensure and graduate specialization components in administration, adult acute care, pediatrics, women’s health, and community health.
- RNs with bachelor's degrees in nursing or other disciplines can specialize in administration, adult acute care, pediatrics, women's health, community health, or family nurse practitioner.
Post Master's Certificate
- We offer a post master's family nurse practitioner certificate for RNs with a master's or doctoral degree in nursing.
Information for Prospective Graduate Nursing Students

- If you are considering a Master of Science degree in Nursing or a Post Master's Certificate, please review our information session schedule and sign up to attend by opening this document. Sessions generally occur during the fall and early spring semesters.
- Review the Prospective Students information provided by the University Division of Graduate Studies.
- Read the SF State Bulletin nursing section for the graduate program that applies to you.
- If you are considering applying to our Generic (entry level) MSN program, please review the admission criteria and tentative program roadmap on the Fact Sheet.
- Course articulation information for nursing prerequisites taken at California community colleges, California State University campuses, and some University of California campuses can be obtained by visiting www.assist.org. If your school is not listed on Assist.org please contact the School of Nursing directly for further guidance.
- If you are a California RN and are interested in obtaining a MSN degree, please review the Information Sheet for the on-campus RN-MSN Program or the RN-MSN Stanford Cohort Program.
- Prospective post master's Family Nurse Practitioner students can obtain information about the Post Master's FNP Certificate by reviewing the program's Fact Sheet.
