School of Nursing Class of 2017 Undergraduate Honoree - Tara Flesner
School of Nursing congratulates Tara Flesner, the Undergraduate honoree of the graduating class of 2017. Tara Flesner will be honored at the Undergraduate Honors Convocation on Wednesday, May 24th.
Tara Flesner, SF State/Sequoia Baccalaureate Nursing student, has been an advocate for our program since before she began and has continued that commitment for the duration of her nursing student career.
Tara was the founder and developer of the first Pre-Nursing Student Club at Canada College. She organized speakers, advisors and former students to help the new "soon to be" students prepare for entry into our nursing program. Shortly after Tara started the program, she was elected by her peers to be the National Student Nurse's Association president for the next two years. This role is not only to manage the students and events in her class, but to mentor and support the students in the level below.
Tara has lead the group through numerous health fairs, Sequoia Hospital Foundation events, Hepatitis B Clinics, led a medical mission to Costa Rica, and recently, planning the pinning ceremony for their nursing graduation. She has been the liaison for admissions, advising and any SFSU nursing news. Most recently, she organized a leadership seminar for her cohort which included nursing directors and managers from Sequoia Hospital for information about hiring, interviewing and resume review.
Tara has done all of this while hospital volunteering, working part time as a nurse's aide and being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honors Society. She is a compassionate care giver, always professional, and is always there to lend her helping hand. Nursing is truly lucky to have her.
