Jaclyn Anne Clark Receives Philip Derf Service Award

Philip Derf was a student in our nursing program at SF State from 1990-1994 who was known as an extraordinary asset to his fellow classmates. His commitment to public service touched many of the faculty and students. Sadly, he passed away before completing the program. In his memory, it has become a tradition SF State School of Nursing that each graduating class chooses one classmate from amongst its ranks to receive the honorary award aptly titled the Philip Derf Award.

This Spring 2020 semester recipient is Jaclyn Anne Clark (BSN). Dr. Daphne Stannard, presented the award during virtual Pinning Ceremony on May 29th, "It gives me great joy and honor to present the Spring 2020 Philip Derf award to Jaclyn Clark (BSN). Most know her as Jackie and she served as the NSA President this past year. Serving as the NSA President during a pandemic is no easy feat, but Jackie organized, surveyed, listened, and gave voice to the different cohorts and classes with grace and ease. Ever diplomatic, Jackie made you—the students’ issues—her issues, which is one of the reasons that it is so apt for her to receive this award!"
